What is a Ferrandina Press NFT and how does it differ from our traditional imagery?

As Ferrandina Press embarks on a new adventure into the fascinating world of digital art, we would like to explain to our patrons the nature of our involvement. Our NFTs (Non-fungible tokens, that is) differ from our more traditional art print offerings in several important ways.

The images that we display on our website as postcards and small prints, as well as the larger prints that we sell through our online business, are high quality physical prints. They are created on Epson art printers using archival quality material and high resolution TIFF images. The images you see on the website for display purposes, however, are jpegs. TIFFs are “lossless,” meaning they do not lose quality with each intervention by their creator, whereas jpegs are “lossy,” which means they lose quality each time they are re-saved.

Our NFTs are digital offerings, and they do not necessarily exist in a physical form. They are created for use on a blockchain in a “lossless” format: PNG. However, the question of loss is not relevant here, because the images are locked and the metadata frozen on the blockchain. We use the highest resolution available for us, which will normally be equivalent to a 13” x 19” (32.9 cm x 48.3 cm) print at 300 dpi. We will also create gifs using these same images. These gifs, because of size limitation, may be somewhat smaller and will most likely be jpegs. In any case, the size and nature of the images will be included as information in the details section of our listings.

The images that we use for our NFTs will be different as well. We will chose from pictures that are not being offered in any other format. And most importantly, we will use the opportunities that the online digital forum offers to present our images in new ways. The NFTs will be presented as thematic collections, and each image may be offered in various forms, in order to present an evolution, or a variety of perspectives on a given subject. We will also tell the story of many of these images with a gif as well.

We hope that those of you who are interested in the NFT marketplace will visit us on Open Sea. There you will see how we are presenting ourselves and you will be able to judge for yourselves how our work compares to others. There is a wide variety of styles in the digital art on view at Open Sea and we think you will enjoy any time spent browsing the site. And don’t forget to bring your crypto wallet and consider owning one of our NFTs.
