Morning Commuters outside, deck

$11.00

This image is based on a Joseph Modica drawing from his Staten Island Ferry sketchbook, ca. 1965. We see the conformity of the “salary men” who largely worked in the financial district, and we see the odd behavior of the seagulls gliding in the backdraft of the comparatively speedy boat. Early morning winter sunlight gives an overall glow. Joseph was a student at Visual Arts School in Manhattan, and commuted daily from his Staten Island home. However, it was clear from early on that he would never take his place among these corporate men.
