Award Winning Pastry Chef and Educator, Juan Arache, welcomes us to the Sugar Room.

It’s all about temptation. Who can resist the sinful pleasure of a delicious dessert? Juan Arache, chef, teacher and owner of the Sugar Room, a cake supply shop that has become an institution on Queens Boulevard in Sunnyside, New York, makes sure we never regret giving in to that temptation.

Juan, a native of the Dominican Republic, first gained a following in New York City in the 1990s with his mind boggling cake designs, which one awards year after year for their intricate and elegant designs. He knew that the right tools were indispensable for creating professional looking cakes for special occasions, but that people had difficulty finding precisely the right utensils and design elements for proper presentation. Thus he decided to open up his own shop to offer these items to the culinary community. In Queens he has found a large number of chefs both Spanish speaking and English speaking, professional and amateur, who were interested in learning more about pastry techniques, and so he included in his shop a classroom kitchen where classes are held in both languages in various aspects of dessert preparations.

We are very pleased to announce that Juan Arache is going to welcome Ferrandina Press readers to the Sugar Room here on our website. He will talk about his experiences and present a few recipes just to tempt us. All this in preparation of a cookbook he is preparing, entitled Siete Pecados, or Seven Sins. It will present recipes that the Master Chef inside of all of us can use to prepare delicious desserts from among seven sweet categories: Cookies, Cakes, Pies, Puddings, Donuts, Icings and Pastries. We can’t wait to sin!
